This week, we are learning about what the equal sign means in addition and subtraction sentences. We are discussing how it means "the same as", rather than "the answer to". We will work with examples such as:
7+2=9
9=7+2
7+2=4+5
We will also celebrate the 50th day of school by counting to 50 by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s.

This week, we are learning about ordering and comparing numbers. We are starting by ordering numbers on an open number line. Next we will be comparing numbers by talking about how they are greater than, less than, or equal to other numbers. *Picture coming soon for further explanation*
This week, we are reviewing place value to 20
(see the pictures below in last week's section to see what we learned). Students will be assessed on the place value information taught last week. |
We are also discussing how to make numbers within 10.

This week, we are continue to practice numeracy, and we will begin talking about subitizing. We will practice subtilizing by looking at numbers represented on 10-frames and domino-dot cards, and saying the number as quickly as possible.
Becoming fluent in recognizing these patterns in numbers will help with our numeracy and fact fluency!

- We are working on making graphs about our transportation, birthdays, and favorite colors. After making these graphs, we are working on answering questions about the data on the graph (Which has the most? Which has the least? What is the difference between ___ and ___? How many people voted in all?).
- We are also working on numeracy (numbers 1-20) and number sense through discussions of how numbers are used in everyday life, counting practice, and a fun "Math About Me" Activity! :)
